Who Are You Wearing?

Here's a question for you: does a perfume's brand matter to you?

Here's why I'm asking. My sister and I were walking around Ulta, sampling perfumes. I noticed that I gravitate towards classics scents by Chanel, Dior, etc. She was a little less discriminating and sniffed all kinds of products. And the two she kept going back to were fragrances by Gwen Stefani and Ed Hardy. Now, I can support her getting a Gwen Stefani perfume but Ed Hardy? Eek. I think we all have bad associations with Ed Hardy thanks to that douchebag Jon Gosselin.

Anyway...I digress. My point is this: if you just smelled a perfume without knowing who it was by, you'd probably be more honest about what you like and don't like. And you might be surprised with who you might end up wearing.

The other day I received some fragrances to try, notably Forever by Mariah Carey and With Love by Hilary Duff. Normally I would never give these scents the time of day. But I stopped and checked them out. And I have good things to say about both.

Forever by Mariah Carey is a bit too girly for me, but it wasn't unpleasant. It wasn't as strong as I thought it would be and there's something a little musky mixed in with the floral scent. What I love, love, love about Forever is the bottle. Seriously, it's packaged beautifully. The bottle would look great on a vanity.

With Love by Hilary Duff shocked me. I was expecting something ultra-feminine, something flowery and way too girly for me. But instead it reminded me of one of my all-time favorites, Dune by Christian Dior. I likey! And the bottle is pretty which is a bonus.

Bottom line: Don't judge a perfume by it's maker! If you have an open mind, you might just be surprised at what you end up liking.

Disclosure: A press sample of Forever and With Love was provided.

I actually tend to order scents from little indie shops. I order by the notes they list. My current favorite is by Cleanse Your Soul, and it's called Over the Moon. It's amber with black cherries and vanilla. A simple scent, but one I love to smell on me all day.

The last time I went scent shopping at a store, I ended up coming home with two perfumes, Hugo Boss Deep Red and Guess Gold. Both were different enough but still nice. I also sometimes rotate in Kenneth Cole's Black and recently, Suck it By Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs.

I stick with my J'adore - I guess I am not a very big perfume girl? I tend to stay away from the "celeb" perfumes though after smelling J-ho's perfume a few years back - that thing was disgusting!

I remember walking through Macy's last year and they had a big display of newer perfumes so I decided to browse - without looking at the name I smelled one and thought wow, this smells pretty good - to my surprise it turned out to be.....*cough* Paris Hilton. That was a buzz kill, but it did smell good.
I kind of go in phases, which isn't good because of the price of things now days - I just tend to get bored easily and want something new. Last year, I was really into Aqualina's Sugar scent...this year, I am really liking D&G's L'Imperatrice...I hate the fact that it is D&G because I try to stay away from the 'fancier' names, but unfortunately, I really like it.

I used to wear Dolce & Gabanna Light Blue, which is very light and zesty, unfortunately I seemed to grow out of it.

Now I'm absolutely in love with Yves Saint Laurent Cinema, its beautiful, and because it has an "old lady" rep, I don't tend to smell it anywhere but on me, which is nice.

That being said, they are the only two designer perfumes I tend to wear, aside from the mens aftershave I have been known to spritz...Armani Extreme Attitude, its absolutely delicious...

Is it wrong to really like mens aftershave on your self?

Currently I am going between B&BW Black Orchid or Twilight Woods. Great winter scents. I think I like Twilight woods more for me. But got a lot of compliments on Black Orchid.
